New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has proven to be a vital cog for the franchise over the years. Whatever be the situation, Jadeja’s inclusion in the playing XI goes without saying, and it all happens due to the sheer balance he brings to the side – a perfect combination of batting and bowling, not to forget his fielding heroics for what he is mostly known.
Jadeja’s brilliance transcends the game’s formats as he is a regular not only for CSK but also in international cricket, for Team India as well. Nonetheless, sticking to his stint with the CSK, there’s a reason that the franchise always chooses to retain him, and in almost every season, the Saurashtra lad delivers some magic that weighs in on the fact why he is a crucial asset for the team.
One such instance came during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, when CSK took on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 25. It wasn’t a knockout stage game, as due to a surge in COVID-19 cases, IPL 2021 was conducted behind closed doors. Therefore, the venues were restricted, and the stands of the stadiums were totally empty.
Now that, after four years, April 25 has arrived, it makes a perfect occasion for reminiscing about “Sir Jadeja’s” fiery knock and the notable final over of Harshal Patel, which saw Jadeja unleashing the beast within and smacking him for 37 runs.

Jadeja vs Harshal – the final over
Having skipper MS Dhoni at the other end, Jadeja delivered a perfect start to the final over for CSK with a flat-banging six over the cow corner and followed it up with another one over the same region. An under pressure, Harshal bowled a waist-high no-ball next, which was belted over wide long-on for a six, with CSK getting one extra run. In the next delivery, which was a free hit, Jadeja reached his fifty with a classy pull, clearing the deep square leg.
Off the fourth delivery, Jadeja ran for a double as he wanted to be on strike because he was on a roll. The fifth ball of the over brought another six from the southpaw as Harshal delivered a full toss and Jadeja slammed it over deep mid-wicket. Well, for the final delivery, Jadeja fell a bit shorter for the boundary and rather hit a four towards square leg, making it an IPL record-equalling 37-run over.
Talking about the game’s result, CSK claimed it by 69 runs as they successfully defended their total of 191/4 (20 overs) with Jadeja being unbeaten at 62(28) with the help of four fours and five sixes. He was adjudged the Player of the Match, not just for his batting heroics but for his bowling figures of 3/13 as well, which helped his side restrict RCB to 122/9 in their run-chase.
