Jemimah Rodrigues enters top-20 of ICC rankings after maiden international century

New Delhi: On the back of her maiden international hundred, India women’s middle-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues has entered the top-20 of the latest ICC rankings list released on Tuesday. Rodrigues smashed a sensational century to power India to a massive win over Ireland in the second ODI match in Rajkot and riding on the performance, she has jumped three spots to sit at the 19th position.

With India firmly positioned in the series with two back-to-back wins in their kitty, the Women in Blue would be aiming a series weep when they lock horns with Ireland in the third and final match on Wednesday at Rajkot. Rodrigues’ flamboyant knock of 102 runs powered India women to their highest-ever score in the 50-over format. The Smriti Mandhana-led side posted a massive total of 370 runs on board in the stipulated 50 overs, bagging a victory by a big 121-run margin.

Jemimah Rodrigues ahead of Suzie Bates

The dashing Indian batter, with 563 rating points, is well ahead of Suzie Bates from New Zealand in the top-20 batters charts. Meanwhile, Indian opener Smriti Mandhana, who is the stand-in skipper for Indian in absence of regular Harmanpreet Kaur, stays on the third place with 723 rating points. Mandhana has also looked promising in the first two 50-over games against the Irish women.

Mandhana is behind Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, who has 733 rating points while South African star batter Laura Wolvaardt, holds the top spot with a career-high tally of 776 rating points. The other big gainer on the ICC batting list is Australian skipper Alyssa Healy, who has climbed to fifth position with 678 points after her impactful 70-run knock in Australia’s victory over England in the women’s Ashes opener.  The top three ODI bowlers were involved in the Ashes series currently, with England’s Sophie Ecclestone (779) taking the top position.
