New Delhi: Former Manchester United Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is getting ready for his next assignment as agent Jim Solbakken and reportedly flew to Istanbul with his agent and is likely to take over as Besiktas helm with a contract that will run until summer of 2026. In November the Turkey club sacked Giovanni van Brockhorst in November and according to media sources have now picked the Norwegian to succeed.

For the 51-year-old it will be the fourth club he will be managing having led Molde in two different stints along with managing Man United and Cardiff City. Solskjaer will be required to turn around the team’s fortunes who are sixth in Super Lig and have had a disappointing season so far, taking 30 points from 18 games.

This will be Solskjaer’s first managerial role since leaving United in 2021, having led the side for three years. Finishing his playing career at Old Trafford after spending more than a decade with the team, he was expected to understand the pulse of the side and what it required. However, he failed to win a single silverware during his time as manager of the side.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time with Manchester United

His time at the Theatre of Dreams came to an end just months after he had signed big names including Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho. In his last season with the club, he had nearly taken the team to European glory but ultimately lost the Europa League final. The 2021-22 season was disappointing for the Red Devils, with Solskjaer managing to win just one of his last seven games with the side.

At the time of Solskjaer’s departure, United were placed sixth, taking 17 points from 12 games. First team coach, Miachel Carrick was caretaker for the team until interim manager Ralf Ragnick tok over before Erik ten Hag was appointed as the permanent manager before the start of 2022-23 season.

Solskjaer will be the second former United manager in Turkish football with Jose Mourinho already managing Fenerbahce, with his side sitting in second place of the points table and are just eight points behind table leaders Galatasaray. Mourinho was replaced by Solskjaer and the duo’s team will clash on May 4th. Over the years, the two former United managers have met each other five times in the past with both winning twice and overseeing one draw. Their meetings include a 6-1 win Mourinho had led Tottenham Hotspur to against United.

Ole Gunnar Soskjaer is set to become manager with Super Lig team Besiktas and will be the second former Manchester United after Jose Mourinho in the Turkish top flight.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
