Premier League: Alexander Isak’s goal scoring run comes to an end in Bournemouth loss

New Delhi: Bournemouth travelled to Newcastle in the first game of Matchday 22 and left St. James’ Park with three points following an impressive display from the Cherries. The game was off to a quick start as Justin Kluivert gave them the lead following a neat finish from Antoine Semenyo’s cut back and there was no stopping him from there on as he went on to score a second league hattrick of the season.

Newcastle equalized after going behind to Kluivert’s opener via a Bruno Guimaraes header but there wasn’t anything else for the Magpies to cheer about. Star forward Alexander Isak, who had been on an eight game scoring streak for the club, was virtually invisible tonight as his run of eight consecutive league games with a goal came to an end against Bournemouth. The Swede had a particularly off night tonight, evidenced by the fact he had no shots on target.

Isak didn’t even manage a shot till the dying minutes of the game and even that shot came through a free kick. Magpies received the freekick towards the end of the game, when the score was still at 2-1 and Isak stepped up to take the set piece from a dangerous position but could only blast the shot into the wall, summing up his forgetful evening. His remarkable run of form came to an end in terrible fashion against the Cherries.

In the last eight games for the Magpies, Isak had contributed to a whopping 14 goals, scoring 11 and assisting another three. His run started in the 3-3 draw against Liverpool in which he scored one and assisted another and also included a hattrick against Ipswich Town and a brace against Wolves. With this defeat to Bournemouth, Newcastle’s nine game winning run also came to an end along with Isak’s scoring run.

Bournemouth continue unbeaten streak

Andoni Iraola has quietly been working wonders with this Bournemouth side and produced an excellent display against Newcastle, bashing them at their own home. They have now extended their club record unbeaten Premier League run to 10 games, consisting of six wins and four draws. They have managed some particularly impressive results, such as wins over Manchester United and Spurs and a draw away to Chelsea.

They’re quietly making a charge for Europe this season and are currently sitting sixth in the Premier League table, above Manchester City and level on points with Chelsea. With players like Justin Kluivert, Antoine Semenyo, Milos Kerkez, and Dean Huijsen all in top form for the club, they might just sneak in a top six or a top seven finish with Iraola at the helm.

Bournemouth travelled to St. James’ Park in Saturday’s early kick off and completely ripped apart the Magpies courtesy a Justin Kluivert hattrick and a late goal from fullback Milos Kerkez.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
