New Delhi: FIFA president Gianni Infantino attended Donald Trump’s Presidential inauguration in Washington DC on Monday. The 54-year-old was attending the ceremony along with cabinet nominees, former leaders, and technology tycoons, as Trump was sworn in for his second term as the US President after winning against Kamala Harris in November.
Trump earlier mentioned Infantino and the World Cup 2026, which will be hosted jointly by the US, Canada, and Mexico, during his pre-inauguration speech rally in Washington on Sunday. Infantino thanked the President for mentioning FIFA and himself during his speech and said he was “looking forward” to the upcoming events that will be hosted in the country along with FIFA’s big event, football.

The FIFA president who succeeded Sepp Batter in 2016 also took to Instagram stating that it was both FIFA’s highest honour to be mentioned by the new President in his victory speech.
Infantino during his interaction noted that he had a good relationship with President Trump and assured that together they would be working to make not just “America great again” but the entirety of the world. For this, Infantino felt football had a key role as it was something that united the entire world.
Last week Trump hosted the Infantino at his Florida Mar-a-Lago residence where the duo discussed the upcoming Club World Cup which will be hosted in the US six months from now. The competition has been revamped with 32 teams taking part in the tournament that starts on June 14th and will end on July 13th and will see the tournament being held across 12 venues across 11 cities. The tournament will witness top clubs from across the big leagues taking part.
Last December, Trump had recorded a video message for the tournament draw in Mimia where he had praised Infantino, calling him “a winner.” Trump noted that he was pleased to have such an amazing rapport with Infantino as football was “going through the roof.”
