New Delhi: The International Cricket Council chairman Jay Shah met with International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach to speak around cricket’s inclusion in Olympics at 2028 Los Angeles Games.
Shah became the ICC chairperson on December 1 of last year and since then has been involved in meetings with Olympic committee members. The ICC posted photos of the meeting between Shah and Bach on its social media accounts on Tuesday.
Shah has earlier met CEO of 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympic Games Organising Committee (OCOG) Cindy Hook during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia.
Cricket checks into Olympics after 128 years
Cricket last featured in Olympics at its 1900 edition in Paris. At LA 2028, cricket will make its presence through its 20-over format. According to reports, matches could be held at the East Coast of America, where T20 World Cup matches were held last year.
Shah said he was excited at cricket’s inclusion in Olympics and pointed out the sport’s potential for global growth.
“This is an exciting time for the sport as we prepare for the LA28 Olympic Games and work to make cricket more inclusive and engaging for fans worldwide. Cricket holds immense potential globally, and I look forward to collaborating with the ICC team and Member countries to seize these opportunities and elevate the sport to new heights,” Shah said in a statement.
