India to have ‘Pakistan’ printed on Champions Trophy jersey after BCCI vows compliance

New Delhi: The Board of Cricket of Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the Indian team will adhere to the dress code set by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the ICC Champions Trophy and rubbished reports speculation that the Board had objected to print Pakistan’s name on the official jersey for the side.

The Champions Trophy, returning after a gap of seven years, will be held from February 19 and India will play its fixtures in Dubai after citing security concerns as the reason for not travelling to Pakistan.

Saikia’s comments come against the backdrop of a massive controversy that dominated the headlines in the last few days after it was reported India had refused to get ‘Pakistan’ printed on their jersey for the Champions Trophy. Pakistan are the official host of the tournament and all participating teams must have the name of the host nation on their jersey.

India to follow ICC’s uniform-related guidelines at Champions Trophy: Saikia

“BCCI will follow every uniform-related ICC rule during the Champions Trophy,” Saikia told PTI.

“Whatever the other teams will do regarding the logo and dress code, we are going to follow in true letter and spirit,” he added.

However, Saikia did not confirm the availability of Team India captain Rohit Sharma for the ICC’s pre-tournament engagements, including a press conference and an official photo shoot, in Lahore.

No confirmation of Rohit’s Pakistan visit

“Whether Rohit Sharma travels to Pakistan for ICC media engagements is something that’s still not decided,” Saikia added.

It will be interesting to see if Rohit travels to Pakistan given his domestic commitments with his state team Mumbai and national duty with Team India for the England ODI series, which will act as a build-up to the Champions Trophy. Additionally, for a team captain to travel to a country even for a day or two after his team and national cricket board have refused to play on that nation’s soil looks out of the question.

Pakistan are the defending CT champion having won the last edition in 2017 after beating India in the final to clinch the title in England in 2017. Champions Trophy 2025 is the first ICC event to be held in Pakistan for the first time after 28 years.

While Devajit Saikia confirmed that the Indian team will adhere to the dress code set by the International Cricket Council (ICC), he did not give any clear answer on Rohit Sharma’s availability for ICC media engagements.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
