New Delhi: The first UEFA Champions League matchday of 2025 has come to an end as the penultimate matchday of the tournament concluded after a thrilling round of action. After Liverpool and Barcelona had sealed a spot in the next round of the Champions League, Arsenal are on the verge of officially joining them in the next round as they sealed a comfortable 3-0 win at home, following a string of lackluster performances across competitions.

Feyenoord provided the biggest shock of the night as they dismantled Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich at home, winning 3-0 against the Bavarians. A brace from Santiago Gimenez had put them in command before Ayase Ueda added a third to seal the three points for the Dutch side. With this win, they move up from the unseeded places into the seeded places and if results go in their favour in the next matchday, they might even move into the coveted top eight places.

AC Milan’s slender win over Girona was enough to see the Italian club break into the top eight and Sergio Conceicao’s side are now sixth in the table, thanks to Rafael Leao’s first half strike. Meanwhile, defending champions Real Madrid have kept their hopes of a top eight finish alive with a 5-1 drubbing of RB Salzburg at home as they move up to 16th in the table. Los Blancos are now only a point behind Leverkusen, who occupy the eighth spot in the table.

The biggest clash of the night saw PSG thrash Manchester City at home to put the English champions on the brink of elimination from the tournament. Both teams started the game in 26th and 24th position respectively, knowing that a loss would significantly hamper their chances of going through. Manchester City took the lead in the second half through Jack Grealish in the 50th minute before Erling Haaland added a second three minutes later.

A frantic 10-minute period betweent the 50th and 60th minute saw four goals being scored as Ousmane Dembele pulled one back three minutes after Haaland’s goal before Bradley Barcola brought the score back level in the 60th minute. Summer signing Joao Neves then gave PSG the lead in the 78th minute before Gonacalo Ramos finished the game in injury time to make it 4-2 to the hosts. PSG move back into the knockout spots with this win and sit 23rd in the table, pushing Manchester City outside of the top 24 as the Cityzens now occupy the 25th spot.
