New Delhi: Smaran Ravichandran continues to impress with brilliant performances in domestic cricket. The 21-year-old smashed a double century in the Ranji Trophy Round 6 fixture between Karnataka and Punjab at the M Chinnaswammy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, January 24.
Punjab bowled out for 55 runs in the first innings after being asked to bat first. Vasuki Koushik picked up 4 wickets and Abhilash Shetty took 3 wickets. In reply, Karnataka got off to a poor start as top-order batters Aneesh, Mayank and Padikkal failed to make any big contributions with the bat.
Smaran came to bat when his team was struggling at 59/2 and stitched four crucial partnerships with Padikkal, Abhinav Manohar, Shreyas Gopal and KL Shrijith. He reached to his maiden double-hundred in 270 balls. Smaran smashed 25 boundaries and three maximums during his unbeaten knock as Karnataka took a healthy lead in the first innings.

The young Karnataka batter made his domestic cricket debut recently. He has played 6 first-class matches, 9 List A matches and 7 T20 matches. Smaran has smashed three centuries and a double century across all formats. His breakout moment came during the CK Nayudu Trophy where he notched up 829 runs and also scored an unbeaten century in the Maharaja T20 Trophy.
Despite being snubbed from Karnataka’s senior team several times, he showed great resilience and determination. Smaran’s years of hard work finally paid off when he was included in Karnataka’s team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024/25. He didn’t disappoint and notched up a stunning century in the final against Vidarbha and helped his team to win their record fifth title.
