Who is Mohamed Amaan? India U-19 star slams century vs Japan in U19 Asia Cup 2024

New Delhi: India U19 skipper Mohamed Aman slammed a splendid century in his side’s clash against Japan U19 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the ongoing U19 Asia Cup 2024 on Monday, December 02. Amaan came out to bat at no.4 and helped India capitalise on the strong start from their openers Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre as he took the Japan bowlers to the cleaners en route to his ton.

Asked to bat first by Japan, India got off to a flying start in their 2nd group-stage game in the U19 Asia Cup 2024 courtesy of a 65-run stand from openers Mhtare and Suryavanshi. Mhatre slammed a quickfire 54 off just 29 balls laced with 6 fours and 4 sixes while 13-year-old Suryavanshi scored a run-a-ball 23.

Amaan took control of the proceedings after Mhatre’s dismissal as he combined with Andre Siddarth (35) to share a crucial 58-run stand for the 3rd wicket. The skipper added another important stand of 122 runs for the 4th wicket with KP Karthikeya, who notched up a 57-run knock of 50 balls. Amaan looked in fabulous touch throughout his innings as he displayed finesse and composure against the Japan bowlers.

The 18-year-old went on to complete his hundred off 106 balls with a single against pacer Kiefer Yamamoto-Lake in the 46th over of India’s innings. The skipper upped the ante after completing his maiden ton in the tournament and finished with an unbeaten 122 off 118 balls studded with seven boundaries. His knock powered India to a big total of 339/6 in 50 overs against Japan.

Who is Mohamed Amaan?

Mohamed Amaan is a talented young cricketer from Uttar Pradesh, who is leading the India U19 team in the ongoing U19 Asia Cup 2024. The 18-year-old was selected for the India U19 team after making waves in the junior circuit in Uttar Pradesh. While he is a reliable middle-order batter, Amaan is also a handy spinner.

Amaan’s cricketing journey has been nothing short of inspiring and his story serves as an inspiration to many young cricketers around the country despite his young age. Amaan was left orphaned at the age of 16 and with the burden of providing for his three younger siblings after he lost his father in 2022 and his mother to COVID-19 in 2019.

At a young age, he was left with a choice to either continue pursuing his cricketing dream or search for odd jobs to ensure his siblings didn’t go to sleep hungry. He chose cricket over everything else and gave the game everything he had to eventually succeed as he made the cut in India’s U19 team. Amaan was named the captain of the India U19 team for the first time for their series against Australia earlier this year.

While he is yet to make his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh, Amaan is rated highly in the state circuit and is considered a future star. He plays for Noida Kings in the UP T20 League but is yet to enjoy a breakout season in the tournament. The 18-year-old will be hoping to continue his purple patch with the willow for India in the U19 Asia Cup 2024 and lead his team to glory.
