New Delhi: After working with former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar on his batting deficiencies over the last few days, Team India star Virat Kohli is all set to train with the Delhi squad ahead of his much-anticipated comeback in the Ranji Trophy. Kohli will be making his return to the premier domestic tournament after over 12 years.

He will turn up for Delhi in their final group-stage fixture against Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi starting January 30. Kohli decided to play for Delhi in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 after BCCI directed the contracted players to play domestic cricket when not on national duty. Kohli had earlier pulled out of Delhi’s last match against Saurashtra citing a neck sprain.

He later confirmed his availability for Delhi’s last group fixture against the Railways and will end his Ranji Trophy hiatus later this week. As per a report in ESPN Cricinfo, Kohli will train with Delhi from Tuesday ahead of his comeback against Railways. Kohli last played for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy in November 2012.

Kohli turned to ex-India batting coach Bangar to iron out the flaws in his batting after enduring a disastrous tour of Australia where he consistently got out trying to poke outside off deliveries from the hists pacer. Kohli managed only 190 runs in 5 Tests against Australia Down Under at an abysmal average of 23.75 as India suffered a 3-1 defeat in the five-match series.

Kohli was spotted training with Bangar in a training facility in Maharashtra’s Alibaug in pictures and videos that surfaced on social media over the last couple of days. The star India batter worked on his technique and the flaws in his batting with Bangar, who was India’s batting coach between 2014-19 when Kohli enjoyed his finest run with the bat across all formats for the national team.

The final round of the Ranji Trophy group matches will end on February 02, four days before the start of the three-match ODI series between India and England. Kohli is part of India’s squad for the ODI series against England which will be a crucial assignment for the hosts in the lead up to the all-important Champions Trophy 2025.
