New Delhi: The hype surrounding Virat Kohli’s Ranji Trophy return died down minutes after his arrival at the crease on Day 2 of the Delhi vs Railways Ranji Trophy match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. After thronging the stadium on Day 1 to watch their superstar during Delhi’s bowling, the crowd flocked the stadium in numbers on the second day in anticipation of watching Kohli bat as Delhi lost two wickets in quick succession.

Kotla roared to welcome back their prodigal son as Yash Dhull departed for 32. Kohli’s arrival at the crease lit up the stadium as fans jumped and shouted in excitement. Kohli showed his class with a beautiful straight drive off Himanshu Sangwan but the elation of the fans was short-lived as the star batter got dismissed on the very next ball.

No Kohli masterclass for Delhi fans

Kohli lasted just 15 deliveries for his six runs, with a solitary boundary to his name. His wicket left Delhi at 87/3, still trailing Railways by 140 runs.

Thousand of fans, who had filled the stadium hoping for a Kohli special were left disappointed by his early dismissal, and didn’t take long to empty the stadium.

Can Kohli redeem himself?

While Kohli’s cheap dismissal broke the hearts of thousands of local fans, they will hope to get a chance to watch a Kohli masterclass in the second innings. Should Delhi get a second innings, Kohli will have an opportunity to redeem himself.

Meanwhile, Delhi skipper Ayush Badoni lifted the gloom after Kohli’s dismissal with a swashbuckling half-century. His partnership with Sumit Mathur has put back Delhi’s innings on track against Railway’s first-innings score of 241.
