New Delhi: Annabel Sutherland etched her name in women’s cricket history with a landmark century in the ongoing pink-ball Ashes Test between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Sutherland continued his superb scoring run in long format and notched up her third Test hundred on day two of the women’s Ashes Test.
Sutherland scripted history by becoming the first woman to score a Test century at the MCG and just the third Aussie woman to hit three Test hundreds with a dominating performance against England on day two of the pink-ball Test in Melbourne.
Sutherland, playing just her sixth Test match, has remarkably equalled Betty Wilson and Jill Kennare for the most women’s Test centuries by an Australian.

Sloppy England allow Sutherland to go big
The powerful all-rounder breached the three-figure mark from 193 deliveries midway through the second session on Friday. She capitalised on the two lifelines handed to her by England’s sloppy fielding.
Sutherland was dropped on 29 by Danni Wyatt-Hodge off the bowling of Ecclestone. Two runs later she got another lifeline as Amy Jones missed a difficult opportunity behind the stumps.
Sutherland’s first Test century too came against England 18 months ago at Trent Bridge, where she scored 137 not out batting in the lower order at No.8.
Eight months later, the Victorian player notched up her second century after earning a promotion to No.6, against South Africa, scoring a masterful 210 at the WACA, Perth.
Sutherland shrugged off poor white-ball form to produce a sensational performance at the MCG – hosting its first women’s Test since 1949. Sutherland went through a lean patch across the white-ball leg of the multi-format series, managing just 54 runs in six innings with a top score of 18.
With injury concern looming over Ellyse Perry, the young cricketer was promoted to No.3 in the MCG Test and came into to bat on the opening day. She survived a tricky phase and navigated her way to 24 at stumps.
