Premier League: Preview and predicted lineups of ‘Matchday 24′ for Saturday fixtures

New Delhi: Premier League matchday 24 will see the clash of the titans with Arsenal hosting Manchester City. However, before the Sunday blockbuster, the gameweek will start with Nottingham Forest taking on Brighton and Hove Albion. Forest are still in the Champions League spot despite last week’s results.

Liverpool have maintained their top spot in the table with a six-point gap at the top as they come to face the seventh-placed Bournemouth. Their Merseyside rivals Everton have turned their season around over the course of the last few games and will face Leicester City at home. The bottom-most placed teams, Ipswich Town and Southampton will be facing each other. Newcastle, who lost their fourth place to Man City last weekend will host Fulham. Saturday’s final game will see Aston Villa visit Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Nottingham Forest vs Brighton and Hove Albion (6:00 PM IST)

Nottingham Forest were stunned by Bournemouth last weekend with a 5-0 loss after being considered title contenders. They were nine games unbeaten across competitions before the loss and are still very much in contention for lifting the title though the Garibaldis are trailing the Reds by nine points. The Tricky Trees have won five times and drawn one game at City Ground in their last six fixtures, failing to overcome just Liverpool at home. Nottingham have only lost successive games once this season.

Even Brighton and Hove Albion are also coming into the game draw following their unbeaten streak, which was broken by Everton last week. Despite the loss, the Seagulls are still in contention for a place in European competition, just six points away from the top six. Brighton’s away record is amazing, remaining unbeaten in six of their last games across the competition. Last season, Brighton won 3-2 in the City Ground and will be looking to lift themselves up the points table this weekend.

Predicted lineup

Nottingham Forest: Sels; Aina, Murillo, Milenkovic, Williams; Anderson, Dominguez; Elanga, Gibbs-White, Silva; Wood

Brighton & Hove Albion: Verbruggen; Veltman, Dunk, Van Hecke, Lamptey; Baleba, Hinshelwood; Minteh, Pedro, Mitoma; Welbeck

Early prediction: Nottingham Forest 2-0 Brighton and Hove Albion

Newcastle United vs Fulham (8:30 PM IST)

Newcastle have been in the form of their lives since the middle of December, winning ten games from 11 across the competition, losing just once to Bournemouth. Newcastle’s humiliating loss to the Cherries, Newcastle thrashed bottom-placed Southampton 3-1, with Alexander Isak’s brace helping him become the first player from Magpies to score in five successive Premier League games. They are sitting in fifth place and are level on points with Manchester City, who are in fourth now and have taken most points in Premier League games in the last eight games.

Fulham are sitting in tenth place and while they still have a chance of securing a European competition spot, their three wins in their last 12 Premier League games haven’t helped their cause, having taken just 16 away points in the competition. The Cottagers managed to claim their first win of 2025 against Leicester City, ending with a 2-0 victory but against a struggling Manchester United, they crumbled in a 1-0 defeat. Against Newcastle they have struggled in recent times as they have failed to beat the hosts in the last eight top-flight games at St James Park, failing to score on six occasions.

Predicted lineup

Newcastle United: Dubravka; Livramento, Botman, Schar, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Isak, Gordon

Fulham: Leno; Castagne, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson; Berge, Lukic; Traore, Smith Rowe, Iwobi; Jimenez

Early prediction: Newcastle United 3-0 Fulham

Everton vs Leicester City (8:30 PM IST)

Everton have reignited their campaign and are moving away from the relegation zone after David Moyes took over helms of the side a few weeks ago. They are currently seventh points clear of the relegation zone thanks to their win against Brighton. Moyes later felt the side may not have played to their best potential but managed through their amazing defence. They have a chance to move ten points away from the relegation zone.

While Leicester City are placed right below them, Everton have managed to keep a six-point gap between them. Leicester’s record against the Toffees haven’t been great winning only once in their last eight clashes. After a streak of losses, the Foxes managed to win against Tottenham Forest, though they are still sitting just a single point away from the relegation area. Their away record this season though has been disappointing, with their game against Spurs being the first away victory since November.

Predicted lineup

Everton: Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Lindstrom, Gueye, Garner, Doucoure, Ndiaye; Beto

Leicester City: Hermansen; Justin, Faes, Vestergaard, Kristensen; Winks, Soumare; Ayew, El Khannouss, Decordova-Reid; Vardy

Early prediction: Everton 2-1 Leicester City

Ipswich Town vs Southampton (8:30 PM IST)

The 19th-placed Ipswich Town were brutally hit for a 6-0 loss by Manchester City at home before Liverpool handed them a 4-1 loss at Anfield. The Tractor Boys have lost three successive games and have won just once in their last five games, although that 2-0 win was against Chelsea. At home, Ipswich have had a poor record which has contributed so much to their in the table, although Ipswich might head into the clash as favourites for a rare occasion.

Southampton in their last clash had briefly put Newcastle in a spot of bother when Jan Bednarek put his side ahead of Newcastle but was quickly shattered by Isak, scoring twice in four minutes. The Saints have taken just six points, owing to one win and three draws in the competition this season, having lost their last six games in the top flight. While there have been signs of improvement, with Nottingham winning by a margin of 3-2 against Southampton two weeks ago, the performances ultimately haven’t been enough to take them past the line.

Predicted lineup

Ipswich Town: Walton; Tuanzebe, O’Shea, Greaves, Davis; Phillips, Cajuste; Hutchinson, Enciso, Philogene; Delap

Southampton: Ramsdale; Bree, Bednarek, Harwood-Bellis; Sugawara, Aribo, Ugochukwu, Walker-Peters; Fernandes; Dibling, Onuachu

Early prediction: Ipswich Town 1-1 Southampton

Bournemouth vs Liverpool (8:30 PM IST)

Bournemouth despite not having Evanilson or Enes Unai has ensured that they are close to the continental football spot. They come on the back of beating Nottingham Forest 5-0, with Dango Quattara scoring a hattrick, with the game before seeing them win 4-1 against Newcastle. They have been undefeated in 12 games across competitions and are unbeaten in the last 11 of their Premier League fixtures. They have managed to keep a clean sheet in the last three top-flight games and a win could see them rise to the fourth place.

Any clash this season against Liverpool has been tough, as they sit six points clear at the top. In both the Premier League and Champions League, they have lost once this season. They still have a game in hand in the Premier League, which is due in a couple of weeks when they take on Everton in Goodison Park and have managed to stay unbeaten in the last 18 games. They happen to be the only side in the league who have managed to stay unbeaten in their away competition. Coming to Vitality Stadium, the Reds will have to give their everything in a venue where both Man City and Arsenal have lost this season.

Predicted lineup

Bournemouth: Kepa; Cook, Zabarnyi, Huijsen, Kerkez; Christie, Adams; Brooks, Kluivert, Semenyo; Ouattara

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Diaz

Early prediction: Bournemouth 0-2 Liverpool

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Aston Villa (11:00 PM IST)

On Boxing Day, Wolverhampton were able to win 2-0 against Manchester United at home but have since picked only a solo point. They managed a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur and have since lost four consecutive games in the league. Their run has included the top-placed teams of the season. Sitting at the top of the relegation zone, they are desperate for a point to push Leicester City in the zone. However, against Aston Villa, they have lost just one of their last five meetings with Aston Villa.

Aston Villa have featured for the first time in 41 years at the Champions League and managed to take an automatic entry in the round of 16 stage. In the Premier League, they are sitting in eighth place, though just four points behind the top-four spot. They are looking at their first double fixture against Wolves since the 2003-04 season. They have been unbeaten in their last five Premier League games, though they have one just twice in this run.

Predicted lineup

Wolverhampton Wanderers: Sa; Agbadou, Bueno, Toti; Semedo, Andre, Doyle, Ait-Nouri; Sarabia, Hwang; Cunha

Aston Villa: Martinez; Maatsen, Konsa, Kamara, Digne; Tielemans, McGinn; Bailey, Rogers, Malen; Watkins

Early prediction: Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-2 Aston Villa
