New Delhi: India women’s U19 cricket team is just one win away from defending its crown at the ICC U19 World Cup 2025. The Niki Prasad-led side will face South Africa U19 women’s team in the final at the Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday. India will become the team to win the first two titles of the tournament if the young players outsmart their African opponents in the big match.
Both teams have remain unbeaten in the tournament to make through to the summit clash. While India won all of their six games, South Africa registered five wins from their six matches with their Super Six match against the United States being abandoned due to rain. This is a similar pattern observed in the senior men’s T20 World Cup final last year, and interestingly, same nations were part of the title clash.
Gongadi Trisha has spearheaded the Indian batting at the top, leading the tournament’s scoring charts with 265 runs from six innings at a strike rate of 149.71. She slammed a firing 110 against Scotland in the Group six fixture. No other batter has crossed the 200-run mark in this World Cup for junior women cricketers.
Vaishnavi Sharma (15 wickets at 3.40) and Aayushi Shukla (12 wickets at 5.91) have been performing outstandingly for India with the ball. On the other hand, South African right-arm off-spinner Kayla Reyneke has played a key role to power her side to the big stage with 10 scalps bagged in five innings at an economy of 4.34, though the batting has been ordinary.
