New Delhi: Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets in the first Test and created history in Rawalpindi on Sunday, August 25. The Bangla Tigers beat Pakistan for the first time in the history of Test cricket.
Chasing the target of 30 runs, Bangladesh won the match in 6.3 overs on Day 5. Zakir Hasan hit the winning runs against Salman Ali Agha. Pakistani players failed to handle the pressure and eventually ended up on the losing side.
Earlier captain Shan Masood made a bad decision by declaring the first innings for 448/6. In reply, Mushfiqur Rahim smashed 191 runs as Bangladesh scored 565 runs to take a crucial 117-run lead.
Pakistan trailed by 117 runs in the first innings, but their batters failed to score runs and struggled against Bangladeshi spinners. Mohammad Rizwan scored 51 runs and showed some fight but didn’t get much support from the other end. Mehidy Hasan Miraz took four wickets and Shakib al Hasan picked up three wickets.
The defeat extended Pakistan’s poor run in Test cricket at home as they have drawn four matches and lost five since 2021. The second Test will begin next Friday in Rawalpindi after it was moved from Karachi due to the ongoing construction work.
