New Delhi: Punjab’s Sift Kaur Samra produced an impressive show at the National Games 2025 as she clinched a gold medal in the women’s 50m 3 positions shooting on Monday, February 03. Sift headed into the final as the favourite and lived up to her reputation with a dominant performance to bag the top spot on the podium.

Sift, who represented India in the Paris Olympics last year, scored 461.2 points in the final to finish on the top and bag the elusive gold medal at the Maharana Pratap Sports College in Dehradun. This was the second gold medal at the National Games for the MBBS dropout, who won her maiden gold at the National Games in 2022.

Sift represented India in the 50m rifle 3 positions event at the Paris Olympics last year and failed to make it to the final as she crashed out from the qualification round. It was her debut Olympic campaign and the 23-year-old finished 31st in the qualifying round, just one position above the bottom.

Winning gold feels like a comeback: Sift Kaur Samra

However, Sift revealed she didn’t give up training and was determined to bounce back from her dismal campaign at the Paris Olympics. The shooter said winning a gold medal at the National Games felt like a redemption to an extent. She said it felt like a comeback after she missed out on a spot in the final at the Paris Games last year.

“This feels like a comeback for me after the Olympics. I didn’t take a break and kept training, so winning gold today feels special,” said Sift after her gold medal triumph.

“I’m pleased with how I executed my routine and the small details that made the difference. It’s also wonderful to share the podium with Anjum, who’s an incredible shooter,” she added.

Anjum Moudgil, her Punjab teammate, also produced an impressive performance in the final as she bagged the silver medal with 458.7 points in the women’s 50m 3 positions event. Surabhi Bhardwaj Rapole won the bronze medal with a score of 448.8 in the final.
