New Delhi: Yashasvi Jaiswal made his mark on One-Day International debut with a stunning catch to dismiss England opener Ben Duckett in the ongoing first ODI between India and England at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur. Opting to bat first, England made a rollicking start as Duckett and his opening partner Phil Salt added quickfire 73 runs off just 53 balls. The rapid beginning to the innings also included the most expensive over by an debutant in ODI cricket with Harshit Rana conceding 26 runs.

However, a miscommunication between the wickets halted England’s charge with the wicket of Salt, who was run out for 43 off 26 balls. Salt’s wicket gave India an opening and Rana came back strongly in his second spell to capitalise on it. The debutant pacer got rid of a dangerous looking Duckett for 32 in the 10th over but the credit of the wicket should go to other debutant Jaiswal.

Rana forced Duckett to pull on a hard length ball but the left-hander miscued it high in the air where Jaiswal, sprinting back from midwicket, dived full length to pluck a stunner.

Three balls later, Rana dismissed Harry Brook (0) to finish a double-wicket over on ODI debut as India finished the powerplay strongly.

All smiles in India camp

Earlier, Jaiswal and Rana received their maiden ODI caps from captain Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami, respectively ahead of the match. Head coach Gautam Gambhir and skipper Rohit Sharma gave a pep talk during the pre-match preparation before both debutants were presented with their maiden caps.

While Jaiswal hugged Rohit after receiving the coveted cap, Harshit was embraced by Shami after the emotional presentation.

England skipper Jos Buttler opted to bat first in good-batting conditions in Nagpur’s VCA Stadium, which is hosting its first India-England ODI since 1985.

Virat Kohli missed out of the playing X1 due to a knee injury.
