New Delhi: Team India defeated England by 4 wickets in the first ODI and took a 1-0 in the three-match series at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Thursday, February 7. Star batter Virat Kohli missed the series opener due to a knee injury.
His injury raised concern as the team is already dealing with the injury of premium fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. He suffered a back injury during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney and there is still no official update on his recovery ahead of the Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to begin on February 19 in Pakistan and UAE. Mohammed Shami has just made a return to international cricket after more than 13 months.
Kohli has been a crucial part of India’s white-ball set-up and the team management cannot afford anymore injury set backs ahead of the eight-team ICC tournament.
Will Virat Kohli play in 2nd ODI vs England?
The Men in Blue will face England in the second ODI at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday, February 9. Shubman Gill provided a crucial update on Kohli’s injury and said that there’s nothing to worry about his fitness and he will definitely be fit for the next match.
“When he woke up in the morning, he had some swelling in his knee. He was fine till yesterday’s practice session. There’s nothing to worry about. He will definitely be fit for the next game” Gill told media after the first ODI.
