New Delhi: Australian captain Pat Cummins and wife Becky were blessed with a baby girl. The couple took to their official Instagram handle and announced the birth of their second child on Saturday, February 8. Becky posted a picture of the newborn and wrote “She’s here. Our beautiful baby girl, Edi words can’t describe how overjoyed & full of love we feel right now”.
Cummins missed the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka due to an ankle injury and Edi’s birth. In his absence, Steve Smith was appointed the captain of the team as the Aussies won the first Test against Sri Lanka. They are also in a dominating position in the ongoing second Test at Galle International Stadium.
Cummins, Hazlewood ruled out from Champions Trophy 2025
Cummins and Josh Hazlewood were ruled out of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy due to ankle and hip issues respectively. Earlier, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was also ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury that has worsened over time and affected his workload during the Test series against India while Marcus Stoinis announced a shocking retirement from ODI cricket.
The Australian skipper hasn’t been able to resume training after missing Sri Lanka tour as he was nursing an ankle problem, which flared up during the gruelling Border-Gavaskar Trophy where he bowled 167 overs and picked up 25 wickets. The Australian head coach revealed that the management is having conversations with Steve Smith and Travis Head for the captaincy role.
“Steve Smith and Travis Head are the two that we’ve been having conversations with while we’ve been building out that Champions Trophy team along with Pat (Cummins) back home. They’ll be the two that we look at for that leadership post” McDonald told SEN Radio. The Champions Trophy is scheduled to begin on February 19 in Pakistan and UAE. Cricket Australia announced the squad for the tournament with both Hazlewood and Cummins in it but according to the rules, the squads can be changed till February 12.
