FA Cup: Preview, Predicted XI and where to watch the for final fourth round fixtures

New Delhi: The FA Cup fourth round has got underway amidst many controversies regarding the use of VAR technology and the partial use of the goalline technology. Title holders Manchester United progressed to the fifth round with a late goal and Manchester City managed to thwart an early setback from Leyton Orient.

Bournemouth took an easy win against Everton while the Championship’s third-placed side Burnley scored once against the Premier League’s bottom-placed team and showed no resistance to progress to the fifth round. Sunday games have Plymouth Argyle hosting the Premier League’s top-placed side Liverpool while Aston Villa will face Tottenham Hotspur.

Plymouth Argyle vs Liverpool (8:30 PM IST)

Since Manchester City’s setback against Wigan Athletic in the 2017-18 season, none of the table-toppers have suffered a setback. However, Plymouth in their last round ensured that top-flight team Brentford didn’t go through the next round of the competition, with Morgan Whittaker delivering an 82nd winner. Since then Kevin Nancekivell has left the side for Miron Muslic with the team sitting at the last of the second division. However, they are coming to the draw on the back of a win against West Brom.

Liverpool are coming to this weekend’s game after managing to turn a one-goal deficit in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur with a 4-0 win in the second leg of the fixture. They are sitting with a six-point gap at the top of the Premier League and have easily made it into the Champions League final 16 as well. In their third round of the FA Cup, they thrashed Accrington 4-0. They are now looking to avoid becoming the fourth team who have started their matchday at the top of the Premier League and then lost to a lower league side.

Predicted lineup

Plymouth Argyle: Hazard; Pleguezuelo, Katic, Taloverov; Sorinola, Houghton, Randell, Mumba; Wright, Baidoo; Hardie

Liverpool: Kelleher; Gomez, Quansah, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Endo, Mac Allister; Chiesa, Elliott, Diaz; Jota

Plymouth Argyle 0-2 Liverpool

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Hotspur (11:05 PM IST)

Aston Villa are coming to the game after winning a late game against West Ham in the third round of the competition. However, Villains have taken just two victories since then in six games across competitions, though their 4-2 win over Celtic ensured them a spot in the Champions League knockout stage. Aston Villa have been unbeaten in their last ten home fixtures across competitions but have conceded in the last six of them. In their last two clash against Tottenham, they have lost twice, conceding four times.

Tottenham while sitting away from the relegation zone in the Premier League disappointed with their loss against Liverpool in the EFL Cup semi-final, with Postecoglou missing out on a trophy in his second season with the club. Their 2-0 win over Brentford has ended their four-game losing streak in the top tier of football. Their 3-0 FA Cup third-round win against Tamworth went to the extra time and there were many times in the scheduled time when the fifth-tier club had the chance to take away the win.

Predicted lineup

Aston Villa: Olsen; Garcia, Kamara, Konsa, Maatsen; Tielemans, Onana; Rogers, McGinn, Ramsey; Malen

Tottenham Hotspur: Kinsky; Porro, Danso, Davies, Spence; Bissouma, Bentancur, Bergvall; Kulusevski, Tel, Son

Aston Villa 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur
