Virat Kohli stunned after shock dismissal in 2nd ODI vs England as woeful form continues

New Delhi: Senior India batter Virat Kohli was dismissed cheaply on his comeback in the 2nd ODI against England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday as his woeful run with the bat continued. Kohli made his return to India’s playing at the expense of young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal after missing the series opener against England in Nagpur due to a knee injury.

Kohli came out to bat at number three with India in a strong position after a 136-run stand between openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in the 305-run chase. However, he failed to make an impact and fell once again to the wizardry of England spinner Adil Rashid. Kohli edged one from Rashid to wicket-keeper Phil Salt to get sent back after managing only 5 runs off 8 balls.

The dismissal took place in the 20th over when Rashid bowled a delivery around outside off which drifted slightly. Kohli went for a forward block but ended up nicking it to the wicket-keeper. The Indian batter was deemed not out by the on-field umpire but England reviewed the decision and the replays showed Kohli had edged the delivery.

However, the Team India star couldn’t believe he had nicked it as his reaction to the replays went viral on social media. Nonetheless, Rashid managed to get his man in the end as Kohli walked back without disturbing the scorers too much in the 2nd ODI.

Virat Kohli’s disastrous run continues

Kohli’s disastrous run with the bat continued with his cheap dismissal in the 2nd ODI against England. The star batter had a dismal tour of Australia where he managed only 190 runs in 5 Tests with a solitary century in the first Test against Perth. Barring that hundred in Perth, Kohli managed only 90 runs in his other 9 innings in the Test series against the Aussies.

Kohli made a much-awaited comeback to the Ranji Trophy for Delhi after 12 years last month. However, he flopped on his return as he managed only 6 runs before getting cleaned up by Railways pacer Himanshu Sangwan, who sent his stumps cartwheeling with a brilliant delivery. Kohli has scored only 39 runs in his last 5 innings across all formats, including his Ranji return.

Adil Rashid continues impressive run against Virat Kohli

Rashid continued his impressive run against Kohli with the dismissal in the 2nd ODI as he got the India star’s wicket for the 4th time in ODIs and 10th time in international cricket. The England spinner has made Kohli his bunny in white-ball cricket and has always troubled the India batter. In nine meetings between the duo in ODIs, Rashid has conceded 108 runs against Kohli in 118 balls and has dismissed him 4 times.
