New Delhi: After missing out on the title at the Australian Open 2025, Iga Swiatek made an emphatic return with a thumping victory against Maria Sakkari in the Round of 32 at the Qatar Open 2025 on Monday, February 10. The world no.2 steamrolled Sakkari in straight sets to register a dominant 6-3 6-2 victory and qualify for the Round of 16.

Swiatek, a three-time champion, has an incredibly dominant record at the Qatar Open and continued her stellar run at the tournament with a winning start on Sunday. Sakkari made a strong start to the clash between the duo in the Round of 32 and went toe-to-toe against the Pole. However, Swiatek eventually got the better of her comfortably to clinch a straight-sets victory, her 13th straight win in the Qatar Open.

It was a competitive opening set between Swiatek and Sakkari as the two players managed two breaks each in the first six games with the world no.2 taking a 2-0 lead. However, Sakkari fought back to make it 3-2. But her joy was short-lived as Swiatek made an epic comeback to take the first set 6-3 comfortably. Sakkari was a no-match for the Pole in the second set as Swiatek wrapped up the match in straight sets.

Swiatek went on an eight-game winning streak which saw her surge to a 4-0 lead in the second set. Sakkari managed to end the streak only in the fifth game after gaining a point. The Greek did try to fight hard to save the match point while being 5-2 down but to no avail as a ruthless Swiatek extended her dominance at the Qatar Open by winning her 25th set in a row.

Who will Iga Swiatek face in the last 16?

Swiatek, who claimed her maiden Qatar Open title in 2022, has won the tournament last three years in a row.
