New Delhi: While fights and physical alterations are not commonly witnessed in cricket but the sport has taken a U-turn in recent times with on-field scuffles coming to the limelight. Something of similar sort happened during a match between South Africa and Bangladesh as ugly scenes came to the fore during a four-day game.
During the Emerging Teams four-day match, players of both the sides were seen involved in a heated altercation which lead to a brawl in the middle of the pitch. The incident took place after an exchange between young Bangladesh batter Ripon Mondol and Proteas pacer Tshepo Ntuli. The fight which started between these two players soon grew with other players of the team also joining in.
Fight initiates after six
According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, no immediate action has been taken by the officials but it is being learnt that the umpires are set to file an official report before sanctions are imposed. The report further mentions that 22-year-old Ripon initially hit a six off Ntuli’s bowling which was followed by exchange of glares between the batter and bowler.
Soon after that, the Bangladesh batter moved towards his batting partner and the bowler, Ntuli charged towards Ripon. In seconds, the moment turned into a big brawl with the bowler pulling the batter’s helmet on multiple occasions despite interference from the on-field umpire. It is however unclear that whether there was any verbal exchange between the two players earlier which might have led to the brawl.

The report further mentions that the match referee will share the report of the incident with both the boards, BCB and CSA, before some action is taken officially.
