New Delhi: Team India wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson recently underwent surgery on his finger after he sustained an injury during the 5th T20I between India and England. Samson was hit on his finger while facing England pacer in the final fifth T20I between India and England at the Wankhede Stadium earlier this month.

Samson had to be subbed off in the game after scoring 16 runs off 7 balls as India registered a thumping 150-run victory in the match to clinch the five-match series 4-1. Samson underwent surgery on his injured finger on Tuesday and is expected to recover in a month’s time. There were concerns regarding his participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, however, he is expected to be fit for the tournament.

Samson will continue to lead Rajasthan Royals (RR) next season and will be hoping to continue his impressive run for the franchise. After his injury, Dhruv Jurel kept the wickets for India in the 5th T20I against England while Samson showcased his brilliance on the field during England’s innings with three catches to play his part in India’s victory.

Samson played all five matches in the T20I series against England but didn’t have a great series as inconsistencies once again crept in for the swashbuckling batter, who has been trusted in the opening role for India in the shortest format. Samson managed only 51 runs in five matches against England at an abysmal average of 10.20 and a strike rate of 118.60.

Samson, who is not part of India’s squad for the ongoing ODI series against England, missed Kerala’s quarter-final clash against Jammu & Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 and is expected to remain out of action for at least a month. He will return to action next for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025 which is expected to kick off on March 22.
