New Delhi: It was an all-round display by the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede stadium on Thursday as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 5 wickets for second win in a row in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Chasing a modest score of 163 runs, the hosts completed the target in 18.1 overs, huffing and puffing towards the end, with Will Jacks emerging as their top-scorer with 36 runs.
Opener Ryan Rickelton smashed useful 31 runs after stalwart Rohit Sharma scored a blistering cameo of 26 runs in just 16 balls including three sixes. Rohit, who got his lost touch back to a certain extent, became the only player to complete 100 maximums in the IPL at the iconic Wankhede stadium. Apart from the openers and Jacks, Suryakumar Yadav contributed useful 26 runs while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 21.
Skipper Hardik Pandya looked ruthless in his 9-ball 21-run knock with three boundaries and a six but failed to take his team over the finish line getting dismissed with just a run to score. Meanwhile, skipper Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for Hyderabad with three wickets while Eshan Malinga and Harshal Patel claim two and one wicket respectively.
Abhishek Sharma shines for SRH
Earlier in the first innings, Sunrisers scored a competitive 162 for five against Mumbai in the 33rd match of the cash-rich league. After being sent into bat first, the visitors rode on useful contributions from Abhishek Sharma (40 off 28 balls), Heinrich Klaasen (37), Travis Head (28), Nitish Kumar Reddy (19) and some fiery hitting from Aniket Verma (18 off 8 balls) to cross the 160-run mark.
For Mumbai, Will Jacks was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets while skipper Hardik Pandya, pace spreadhead Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult claimed one wicket apiece. Mumbai next play Chennai Super Kings while Sunrisers lock horns again with Mumbai in their next clash.
