Kolkata: Amit Kumar, the former MD of Accenture Consulting, has been roped in by Wipro to head its global consultancy business, will take charge immediately. Reports said the Indian software major is aggressively pursuing expansion into this space and Kumar, who has a rich experience of more than 24 years in the consulting business in the markets of North America, Europe and Asia Pacific is expected to provide teeth to the company led by the Premjis.
Amit Kumar will be based in New York. “Amit will report to CEO and MD Srini Pallia and join the Wipro Executive Board,” Wipro said in a statement on February 14. The company has been focussing on the consulting business recently. One of the vehicles has been Capco, which is a subsidiary. In mid-December, Wipro announced the move to acquire Applied Value Technologies, a company based in Massachusetts for $40 million to boost its application services skills.

Amit Kumar comes with first rate academic and professional credentials. He passed from New Delhi’s St. Stephen’s College and also holds a postgrad degree in management from the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management in Pune. His rich professional experience of 24 years is spread across industries as diverse as chemicals, energy, retail, automotive, consumer goods and those termed as hi-tech. His expertise belongs to the diverse domains of business transformation, operational excellence, engineering, manufacturing digitisation and supply chain management.

According to reports, Wipro has taken a lot of attention to develop business leaders. For one, the Wipro Leadership Institute is supposed to train more than 600 leaders by March this year. In January, while announcing the Q3 results, Wipro’s CFO Aparna Iyer told the media that they would also hire professionals for leadership positions. In end November 2024, Omkar Nisal joined the company as the CEO for Europe. Wipro witnessed a few high-profile resignations in 2024.
Amit Kumar has joined as managing partner and global head of Wipro Consulting and he will take over immediately. He is supposed to boost Wipro’s endeavour to expand the Artificial Intelligence-powered business and advise client organisations through technology/business changes.
