New Delhi: India and Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Jasprit Bumrah broke Yuzvendra Chahal’s record to become the fastest Indian bowler to complete 300 wickets in T20 cricket. Bumrah achieved the feat during MI’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Wednesday, April 23.
The Mumbai Indians pacer was one wicket away from completing the 300-wicket mark in T20 cricket. He completed the milestone after dismissing SRH batter Heinrich Klaasen on 71 in the game. Bumrah reached 300 wickets in 238 matches, surpassing Chahal, who achieved the huge feat in 265 T20 matches. Bumrah has 170 wickets for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and 89 wickets for India in T20Is.
He is overall the 16th fastest to 300 wickets in T20 cricket and is the only bowler to have reached the milestone with an economy rate of under 7. Bumrah became the fifth Indian bowler after Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Piyush Chawla and R Ashwin to take 300 wickets in T20 cricket. Chahal has the most wickets by an Indian in T20s, with 373 wickets in 320 matches.
Jasprit Bumrah equals Lasith Malinga’s record for Mumbai Indians
Bumrah also went on level terms with the legendary Lasith Malinga to become the joint-highest wicket-taker for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Malinga held the record with 170 wickets to his name in 122 matches for the Mumbai Indians in the cash-rich league. Bumrah has equalled Malinga’s tally in 138 IPL matches for the five-time champions.
Bumrah, a find of Mumbai Indians scouts, has played for only one team in his IPL career so far. One of the best pacers in the world at present, Bumrah, has played a key role in the team’s success over the years.
Mumbai Indians thrash SRH by 7 wickets
Mumbai Indians rode on an impressive spell from left-arm pacer Trent Boult and a blistering knock from Rohit Sharma to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets and break into the top four on the IPL 2025 points table. Boult picked up a four-wicket haul to run through SRH’s top order and help MI restrict them to 143/8 in 20 overs.
Rohit slammed a brilliant knock of 70 runs off 46 balls, and combined with Suryakumar Yadav, who scored a quickfire 40 off 19 balls to help MI chase down the target of 144 runs comfortably with 26 balls to spare and record their fourth win on the trot. MI are now on the third spot in the IPL 2025 points table with 10 points from 9 matches and are in the race for a spot in the playoffs.
