New Delhi: Attack Energy, one of Afghanistan’s most respected football clubs, has made the shock decision to disband following allegations of match-fixing in the Afghanistan Champions League. The club, which was in contention for the title, was edged out by Abu Muslim Farah, who were crowned champions after winning by just three goals on goal difference.

This dramatic turn of events followed a highly controversial 8-0 victory by Abu Muslim Farah over Adalat Farah, a match that Attack Energy believes was fixed. The result of that game raised serious questions about the integrity of the league, leading Attack Energy to call for a thorough investigation into the allegations.

Call for transparency in Afghan football

Attack Energy’s management has expressed their disappointment with the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) for failing to take the allegations seriously. The club had hoped for a transparent investigation, but after their complaints were dismissed, they were left with no choice but to dissolve the club.

Attack Energy, who have a long history in Afghan football and competed in the AFC Challenge League, have gone public with their frustration, seeking an investigation from both FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The AFF, however, conducted its own review and concluded that no wrongdoing had occurred, allowing Abu Muslim Farah’s title to remain intact.

Suspicion surrounding the 8-0 win was fueled by the fact that both Abu Muslim Farah and Adalat Farah are reportedly owned by Abdul Hamid Sharifi, a businessman from Farah city. In light of this, eight teams submitted formal complaints to the AFF, demanding a fair investigation.

Attack Energy’s statement highlights their concern about the lack of action and transparency in Afghan football governance. They called for urgent reforms to ensure that such incidents do not tarnish the reputation of the sport in Afghanistan in the future. Although FIFA has declined to comment on the specific case, it is understood that the global governing body does not typically intervene in domestic league matters.
