New Delhi: Goods and Services Tax (GST), India’s unified tax system, helped in creating a single market that removed interstate barriers and boosted operational efficiency. The GST was introduced on July 1, 2017. GST replaced a fragmented and complex indirect tax regime as the framework consisted of numerous levies such as excise duty, service tax, VAT, CST, and others.
An individual or businesses can make a GST payment either online or offline. It is compulsory to generate a GST challan. The GST payment can be made through these options – Online payments, Net banking, Immediate Payment Services (IMPS)* and Unified Payment Interface (UPI)*.
How to make GST payment post-login
- Visit https://www.gst.gov.in/ URL.
- The GST Home page will appear on screen
- The user needs to Login to the GST Portal with valid credentials
- Access the generated challan
- Click the Services > Payments > Challan History command
- There are two ways to generate a GST challan – By logging in to the GSTIN account on the GST portal or before the login. Steps to be taken if the taxpayer chooses to generate challan before logging in:
- Visit the website and after logging in, the taxpayer can find a button to ‘Create Challan’ on the dashboard itself.
How to pay GST offline in offline modes – If a taxpayer selects OTC or NEFT/RTGS, bank details need to be required where cash is deposited or remitted and click on ‘Generate challan’.
Generate Challan without logging to portal
- Visit GST portal’s homepage
- Go to Services > Payments > Create Challan option
- The user has to enter GSTIN or the ID
- Enter Captcha
- Amounts for CGST, SGST, IGST need to be submitted.
- Next step is to choose relevant payment mode
- Enter GSTIN/Other ID for the Challan Generation field
- Click on Proceed button
- Click on the ‘DOWNLOAD’
- The generated challan will be download
