New Delhi: New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips left fans in awe with an exceptional one-handed flying catch during their Champions Trophy 2025 opener against hosts Pakistan at the National Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday, February 19. It was a stunning catch from Phillips, who is one of the best fielders in the world at present and is known for his acrobatic fielding efforts.

The dismissal took place in the 10th over of Pakistan’s 321-run chase in the match. Kiwi pacer William ORourke bowled a short and widish delivery to Rizwan on the final delivery of the 10th over and the Pakistan captain went hard on it, looking for a boundary. Rizwan played a cut shot and the ball flew towards Phillips.

The ball looked set to fly over him but Phillips cut it short with a stunning effort as he flew towards his left and stretched out his left hand to pluck a blinder. Phillips ended up taking the catch behind his body to pull an early Catch of the Tournament contender in Karachi. Pakistan struggle in run-chase against New Zealand

Pakistan got off to a shambolic start in their 321-run chase against New Zealand in Karachi on Wednesday as the hosts lost opener Saud Shakeel cheaply on 6 runs off 19 balls in their opener. Rizwan then joined hands with Babar Azam to steady the ship for the Men in Green. However, the duo failed to post a substantial partnership.

Lack of boundaries and failure in strike rotation resulted in immense pressure as Rizwan was caught by Phillips to depart after managing only 3 runs off 14 balls during his 14-run partnership with Babar for the second wicket. Injured Fakhar Zaman came out to bat at no.4 despite not being able to run and managed a gritty 24 before getting cleaned up by spinner Michael Bracewell, leaving Pakistan reeling on 69/3 in the chase.

Babar is still out in the middle with Salman Agha but the pressure is mounting on Pakistan with the required rate going up with every passing over. Babar will have to play a special knock if Pakistan are to fancy their chances of getting off to a winning start in the Champions Trophy 2025.
