Fiorentina’s Moise Kean in hospital after sustaining head injury

New Delhi: Fiorentina have confirmed that their forward Moise Kean has been taken to hospital after he suffered a “head trauma” during their 1-0 loss to Hellas Verona on Sunday. Kean clashed with Verona players Pawel Dawidowicz and Diego Coppola in the second half of the Serie A game, while battling for the ball and even returned to continue playing after bandaging his head.

The Italian forward collapsed in the 64th minute after arriving on the pitch with players from both sides requesting medical attention and the game was halted. Kean was taken off on a stretcher and was seen with a neck brace as he was being taken to the hospital. Kean has scored 15 goals for the side in the top tier this season.

Fiorentina have confirmed that the 24-year-old was taken to the hospital after sustaining an injury to his head. This is the second occasion that a Fiorentina player has collapsed on the pitch after Edoardo Bove, coming on loan from Roma, had previously collapsed on the field in a game against Inter Milan and the match was ultimately abandoned. Bove went through a successful surgery after the incident and had a removable defibrillator fitted to avoid another cardiac arrest and is yet to play.

Following the game’s restart Hellas Verona were able to score when their midfielder Antoine Bernede found the back of the net in stoppage time. Despite the loss, Fiorentina are currently placed sixth in the table while Verona are in 14th place. 

Kean came to the side for Juventus last summer on a permanent deal and has been one of the most impactful players in the team scoring 19 times in 30 games across competitions. He has previously played for Verona, Everton and Paris Saint-Germain.
