New Delhi: The Indian Wells tennis tournament organisers have stepped up the security of Emma Raducanu after the stalker incident left the player terrified at the Dubai Tennis Championship recently. The British tennis star has been given five extra security men for the Indian Wells, which is starting in the United States from March 02.
Raducanu was approached by a person who displayed ‘fixated behaviour’ towards the tennis player on two occasions during the Dubai Tennis Championships, leaving her disturbed and terrified. The Brit was taken aback when the man approached her in a public area on one day and the next day, he was found sitting in the first few rows of the spectators box during her second-round clash.

The incident was so terrifying that the match had to be halted for a while as Emma Raducanu approached the chair umpire with the issue. Moments later, the spectator was removed from the stands and the second-round game was resumed, which Raducanu ended up losing. Few days after the incident took place, the spectator was given a restraining order by Dubai police where he assured in writing that he will keep a safe distance from Raducanu.
The fixated man was also banned from attending all the future events by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). Raducanu received a lot of support from people within the fraternity and days later, she took to social media to thank all the people for extending their help and support.
‘Thank you for the messages of support,’ Raducanu posted on her Instagram account about the incident in Dubai last week. ‘Difficult experience but I’ll be okay and proud of how I came back and competed despite what happened at the start of the match,’ she wrote.
Meanwhile, the British tennis player would be hoping to bounce back in the forthcoming event after her disappointment in Dubai.
