New Delhi: Australian media has been after Indian cricketers in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as they continue to play mind games with the visitors. Days after Team India star Virat Kohli was involved in an airport fiasco with an Australian reporter for filming his family and children, the Aussie media is at it again with Ravindra Jadeja on the receiving end this time around.
Jadeja has been accused of not speaking in English during the pre-match press conference in Melbourne on Saturday ahead of the fourth Test between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). A report in Australia’s 7News claimed Jadeja chose to answer questions in his native language and not use English despite the presence of Australian journalists in the presser.
The report claimed that the Indian media team did acknowledge the Aussie journalists present at the presser but Jadeja chose to answer questions in Hindi. The report also alleged that the Indian media team later said that the press conference was meant for “travelling Indian media only” despite Australian reporters being invited for it.
No player is under any obligation to speak in English at a press conference and there have been multiple instances in the past where Indian players, who are not comfortable with English, have preferred to answer questions in their native language. Earlier in the ongoing series, Indian pacer Harshit Rana had answered questions in Hindi at a presser after making his debut in the Perth Test.
The latest accusations have further added fuel to the fire as the tensions continue to rise between the Indian cricketers and the Australian media in the ongoing series. Earlier, Kohli’s outburst at an Aussie reporter for filming his family had garnered headlines Down Under.
Ravindra Jadeja aims to continue fine form
After being reduced to the bench in the first two Tests against Australia, Jadeja made a roaring comeback in the recently concluded third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. The left-arm all-rounder played a brilliant knock of 77 runs to bail India out of trouble in their first innings and helped them avoid follow-on to draw the Test match.
He is expected to continue featuring in the playing XI in the 4th Test at the MCG and will be aiming to continue his fine form for the visitors. The 4th Test between India and Australia at the MCG will get underway on Thursday, December 26. The five-match series is currently locked at 1-1 with both teams winning a game apiece.
