Premier League 2024-25: Mikel Arteta defiant on title hopes ‘over my dead body’

New Delhi: Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made a strong claim ahead of their midweek clash after falling behind 11 points behind after Saturday’s loss to West Ham. He said that the Gunners will not stop fighting for the Premier League title insisting that they have done well despite injuries and setbacks.

Ahead of the midweek trip to Nottingham Forest when Arteta was asked if he would concede the title he told the reporters, “Over my dead body. If not I will go home. Mathematically it is possible. Three days ago we could close a gap and you are like ‘you are one-and-a-half games away’.”

Arteta further added that it’s not an easy job to win the Premier League title with the circumstances we are in but we probably have to do something that nobody else has done in the history of the competition to win it.

Many believe that the title race is decided after Liverpool’s 2-0 triumph over Manchester City but Arteta is in no mood to accept that. The Gunners have been hugely impacted by injuries to key players this season with Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli all sidelined.

The Spaniard defended his side and said, “If somebody tells you at the start of the season that you play five times with a red card, over half an hour in each of those games, and you have lost this amount of players… you’re in the middle of the table at least. That’s not the situation which clearly tells the resilience, resources, the ambition the team has.”

Arsenal have won the same number of points with exactly the same goal difference as Arne Slot’s side before their defeat at the hands of West Ham. They have been consistent over the past three months considering what they have been through. They have been trying hard to get back their momentum which has been a challenging task for them.

Looking ahead

Arsenal faces a huge task to climb the cliff with the Reds being unbeaten in the league since September. Only three themes have managed to close an 11-point gap or more to become champions by the end of the season. Arsenal still have one game in hand on Arne Slot’s side before they face each other on May 10.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta refuses to concede the Premier League title race despite Arsenal trailing by 11 points, vowing to fight until the end despite injuries and setbacks.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
