New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued new guidelines to all ten franchises ahead of the IPL 2025. The new season will start with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens on March 22.
According to the Cricbuzz report, the BCCI sent a note to all the franchises and issued direct guidelines that teams cannot hold more than seven sessions in the stadium for the upcoming season and also said that there can only be two warm-up matches or centre wicket practice sessions.
The BCCI stated that in advance to the first match of the upcoming season, franchises may hold up to seven practice sessions of up to three hours in duration under floodlights, of which two can be practice matches or open nets as decided by the team.
“The practice matches to take place on one of the side wickets of the main square. If a team is playing a practice match under lights, the duration of the match should not exceed more than three and a half hours. As per the Operational Rules, practice matches require the prior written approval of the BCCI” the BCCI note said, as reported by Cricbuzz.
No practice sessions on the main square
The BCCI also stated that franchises could not hold practice sessions and matches on the main square in the four days leading up to the first match in the stadium. “However, 1 side wicket per team will be provided for range hitting on these days. During this period, if requested by the home franchisee, the State Association” The BCCI note added.
The new guidelines were issued due to the venues taking load during domestic matches that were played close to the start of the IPL season. The BCCI also proposed a method in case both franchises want to practice at the same time and stated that if both teams wish to practice at the same time, then BCCI will ask the two team managers to try and resolve the issue.
