New Delhi: Manchester City’s Nathan Ake underwent surgery for the fractured foot on Monday after he sustained the injury during the 3-1 win against Plymouth Argyle in the fifth round of the FA Cup last weekend. At halftime, the Dutch international was replaced and is now expected to be on the sidelines for a considerable amount of time.
Ake took to Instagram and described the season as “frustrating” in his post. This season the 30-year-old has just played in 10 Premier League games, 18 across competitions and has suffered from hamstring and muscular injuries. In his post Ake mentioned that he would, for the time being, “rest and recover” and thanked the club’s fans for pouring their support on him.

The City are going to play Nottingham Forest in the Premier League in the coming weekend, as Pep Guardiola’s side sit fourth in the competition, and are just one point behind the Tricky Tress. City have been marred by injuries throughout the season, with big names including Kevin de Bruyne and Rodri. While De Bruyne’s stay on the sidelines was short, Rodri has been on the sidelines since September, undergoing knee surgery, which has evidently affected City’s title charge.
Rodri could be back in the field before the end of the season
Guardiola recently noted that the Spanish midfielder could be back in the team before the end of the season, and he could be making a comeback after the international break, but felt that while there was no rush to bring back Rodri. Guardiola said about Ake that the central defender position has been a difficult one with a lot of injuries occurring in that position.
The Spanish manager did mention that younger players, including Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, could step up and hopefully take up the responsibility. Ake joins a list including centre-backs John Stones and Manuel Akanji, both of whom are now set to miss the entire season.
