New Delhi: Premier League’s Saturday fixtures have been thrilling with just 12 weeks remaining in the top flight of English football. The day started with Manchester United securing a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park after being on the back foot for most of the game. Settling for just one point still means David Moyes has extended their unbeaten streak to six games in the Premier League and taken 14 points from their last six outings in the top flight. This was followed by five games, each producing an edge-of-the-seat contest.
Premier League title contender, Arsenal faced a hammering in their bid as they lost 1-0 against struggling West Ham United. The gap between Arsenal and table leaders Liverpool remained at eight points and a win for Liverpool in the Sunday blockbuster against Manchester City would mean a whooping 11 points gap. The best result came for Brighton and Hove Albion after they nailed a 4-0 win, against lowest-ranked team Southampton, climbing to the ninth in the table.
Bournemouth started the weekend in fifth place and though a 1-0 loss against the struggling Wolves, who are just five points clear of the relegation zone, doesn’t affect their place in the table, it was a disheartening performance nevertheless. Bournemouth have now lost two consecutive home fixtures in the Premier League.
Crystal Palace took a 2-0 win against Fulham, though they are in the 13th place after Tottenham Hotspur won 4-1 against Ipswich Town, who continue to stay in the 18th place, with Brennan Johnson scoring a brace in the game. The Lillywhites were struggling in the season at one point but have now managed to clear themselves off the relegation zone by 11 points.
Chelsea and Aston Villa clash was highly anticipated, with the Blues getting an early lead in the game but were ultimately outdone by the Villan who took a 2-1 win this weekend and secured three points. The win takes Aston Villa two places above where they started the weekend and are now placed in the seventh position.
