New Delhi: Axar Patel got the big fish Glenn Maxwell during the first semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025 between India and Australia at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Tuesday, March 04. Axar bamboozled Maxwell with a ripper to dismiss him cheaply in the all-important clash. Maxwell struck a six off Axar before getting cleaned up on the next ball.
The dismissal took place on the 3rd delivery of the 38th over. Having smashed a six off the previous ball, Maxwell was looking for runs but Axar managed to get the better of him with a straightish delivery. The left-arm spinner bowled a length delivery on to the middle stump which ended up rattling Maxwell’s stumps as the Aussie batter tried to nudge it on the backfoot.
Maxwell was sent packing cheaply after scoring just 7 runs off 5 balls as Australia lost their sixth wicket on 205 to be left in a precarious position in the game. Maxwell could have hurt India had he stayed a bit longer but Axar managed to negate the threat with his early dismissal.

It was Axar’s first wicket in the game as he joined the party after Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja dominated the proceedings against Australia. The Aussies got off to a shaky start in the semi-final after opting to bat first as they lost opener Copper Connolly on a duck in the 3rd over but Travis Head’s 33-ball 39 and Steve Smith’s half-century brought them back on track.
India restrict Australia to 265
India managed to restrict Australia to 265 runs in the semi-final after impressive spells from the spinners. India went in the game with a four-pronged spin attack and the move paid off as Jadeja and Chakaravarthy spun a web around the Australian batters. Smith top-scored for Australia with 73 off 96 balls while Carey slammed a fighting 61 to help them post a decent total on the board.
