Team India has secured their place in the final of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after a commanding victory over Australia in the semi-finals. The Men in Blue remain undefeated in the tournament, winning all four of their matches with ease. The highly anticipated final is set to take place on March 9 at the Dubai International Stadium.
However, India’s dominating run has ignited the debate among cricket experts and critics, with claims addressing that the team has had an added advantage throughout the tournament. Critics argue that since India has played all their games in Dubai itself, they have not faced the challenge of constant travel, unlike other teams that had to adapt and acclimatize to new conditions.
Additionally, concerns have been raised about the nature of the pitches, which many believe have been tailored to favour India’s spin-heavy attack.
India entered the tournament with five specialist spinners, and all the matches so far have been played on spin-friendly surfaces. This has led to controversy that the pitches have been curated to suit India’s spin unit.
Gambhir slams India’s detractors
Addressing these allegations boldly, the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir dismissed the concept of any undue advantage, calling the debate ‘irrelevant.’
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Gambhir stated: “Since our arrival, we haven’t practiced a single day at the Dubai International Stadium. Our training sessions take place at the ICC Academy, where the pitch conditions are vastly different.”
Gambhir also mentioned that those questioning India’s success, are nothing but just “perpetual cribbers”.
“We did not plan for any undue advantage. The team plays according to the situation,” he added.
Meanwhile, India, after defeating Australia to enter the final, would be looking to block all the outside noise and focus on winning the title rather than any off-field controversies. The Men in Blue have a golden chance to win their second Champions Trophy and their second ICC trophy within a year.
The winner of the second semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa will face India in the final on March 9th at the Dubai International Stadium.
