New Delhi: Indian para shooter Manish Narwal claimed silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event on Friday at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre in the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024. He shot a total score of 234.9 from 24 shots in the 8-men final event.
Manish Narwal was the gold medallist at the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago in P4 50 metre pistol SH1 category but couldn’t win gold medal this time around in the 10m air pistol SH1 event. South Korea’s Jo Jeongdu took the gold medal home with a score of 237.4. Nevertheless, Narwal added to India’s medal tally on the second day as the country bagged four medals.
The Haryana-based para shooter also joined an elite list of athletes to win medals in different editions of the Paralympics. Earlier in the day, Avani Lekhara defended her gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle SH1 event. Devendra Jhajharia in men’s javelin throw (F44/F46) and Mariyappan Thangavelu in men’s high jump (F/42 and T63) are other athletes to achieve the landmark.

Manish Narwal’s love for shooting leads him to new heights
Manis Narwal was born on October 17, 2001, in Ballabhgarh, Haryana. His family has roots in sports as his father was freestyle wrestler and two of his brothers went into shooting, including Indian pistol shooter (Olympic category) Shiva Narwal. He has a congenital impairment on his right hand but that didn’t stopped him from expressing his passion for shooting.
He was taken to a shooting range in 2016 by his family members and then he became a regular member at that range. He would only compete in shooting for enjoyment without having the knowledge Paralympics or Para Sports. Coach Jai Prakash Nautiyal recognised the talent of Manish and soon the shooting lover groomed his skills under the coach’s guidance.
Manish made his international debut at the Bangkok World Cup in 2017. He bagged a gold medal in P1 – 10m air pistol event and also set the junior world record at the qualification and the finals. It’s Narwal’s determination and passion for the sport that defines his journey, which has seen him flourish and win medals at biggest stage of the sports, including Paralympics and Asian Para Games.
