From struggle to success: How women are overcoming adversity and achieving their dreams

Mumbai: International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8 every year to recognise the achievements of women in social, economic, cultural, and political spheres while advocating for gender equality and empowerment.

On this occasion, Nikky Gupta, Co-Founder & CEO of Teamwork Communications Group has penned an article on how modern women are leading the way to success across fields. She writes, For years, women have fought against obstacles to prove their worth. As Swami Vivekananda once said, “The world cannot progress unless women are uplifted. A bird cannot fly with just one wing.”

His words remind us that supporting women is not just about fairness; it helps society grow. Today, women are not just following their dreams; they are shaping the world. Their hard work and determination show that no challenge is too big.

From struggles to success

Women have always defied the odds, proving that resilience and ambition can break barriers. Their journeys, from history to the present, are marked by courage and perseverance. Take Kalpana Chawla, for example.

Born in a small town in India, she dared to dream beyond limitations and became an astronaut. At a time when careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics were often seen as out of reach for women, she challenged the norm and made her mark in space exploration. Her journey from India’s Karnal to the stars continues to inspire young girls to aim high.

Freedom fighter Rani Lakshmibai redefined what women could achieve. Leading an armed rebellion against British rule while raising a child, she proved that bravery knows no gender.

Even today, women continue to push boundaries in male-dominated spaces. Indra Nooyi, former CEO of PepsiCo, overcame gender biases in corporate leadership while balancing professional and personal expectations.

Modern women leading the way

Today, women are proving that no industry or profession is beyond their reach. From corporate boardrooms to cutting-edge research labs, from sports arenas to security forces, they are making their presence felt with confidence and capability. Leadership roles that were once male-dominated are now seeing strong female voices shaping policies, strategies, and innovations.

Women are increasingly challenging the ‘norms’, driving businesses, shaping technology, and making key decisions in government. They are not just working in different fields; they are transforming them in meaningful ways.

Whether launching startups, leading space missions, or improving workplaces, women are showing that gender is not a limitation—it is a strength.

Changing world

Many companies are offering leadership and mentorship programs, and offering flexible work options to help women succeed without giving up on personal goals as they juggle multiple roles as mothers, wives, daughters, and caregivers. It is not just about hiring more women now; it is about giving them real opportunities to grow and lead.

Governments and organisations are also supporting women entrepreneurs and leaders. When women have equal opportunities, businesses grow, and societies progress. More women are starting their ventures, bringing fresh ideas, and making a big impact on the economy.

The road ahead

Women have always found ways to balance their dreams with their responsibilities, often juggling work, family, and personal ambitions all at once but moving forward is not just about working harder, it is about changing the way success is defined. Today, more women are leading companies, starting businesses, and making an impact in every field but to truly create lasting change, workplaces, homes, and society as a whole need to offer the right support.

Gupta opines and concludes when families share responsibilities, when workplaces offer real opportunities for growth, and when women are encouraged instead of questioned, success becomes easier to achieve. The goal is not just to open doors but to build a world where women can thrive in their personal and professional lives without compromising.
