New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have received a massive boost as pace sensation Mayank Yadav has resumed bowling at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Mayank is reportedly set to join the LSG squad in the second week of April as his recovery is going well. Reports claimed that the young Indian pacer might miss the first half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to his rehab.
Mayank suffered a lumber stress injury while playing for India during his debut T20I series against Bangladesh at home last year. He was sent to BCCI’s Centre of Excellence for rehabilitation and started bowling recently. There were concerns regarding his participation for LSG in the first half of the IPL 2025 as he was yet to get the green signal from the BCCI medical staff.
However, as per a report in India Today, sources have revealed that Mayank is showing match readiness and has been bowling well in the nets at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. As per sources, the pacer is likely to join the LSG squad by April 11 or 12. However, it would still mean he will miss at least the first seven matches of the season for LSG.
Mayank’s absence will be a big miss for LSG heading into the season as they are also sweating over the fitness of pacer Avesh Khan, who is currently undergoing rehab at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. Left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan is also reportedly not fully fit and there is no official confirmation on when he will return to action.
LSG heavily reliant on their Indian pace attack
Lucknow Super Giants are heavily reliant on their Indian pacers heading into the Indian Premier League 2025 as they spent big money on the likes of Mayank, Avesh and Akash Deep among others. While the franchise retained Mayank for Rs 11 crore, Avesh was bought for a big sum of Rs 10 crore. Mohsin was retained as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore while LSG spent Rs 8 crore to sign Akash Deep at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year.
West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph is the only specialist overseas pacer in LSG’s squad and thus the team management would want their Indan pacers to be fit and firing ahead of the new season.
Team India pacer Mayank Yadav has reportedly resumed bowlng at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and is expected to join the squad next month. Mayank is undergoing rehab having recovered from a lumbar stress injury. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
