New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might consider imposing a ban on all sorts of promotions involving tobacco and alcohol brands after a directive from the health ministry. The matter will be up for a discussion during the Indian cricket board’s upcoming Apex Council meeting in Kolkata. The meeting is set to take place on March 22, the day Indian Premeir League (IPL) 2025 gets underway.
As per a report in news agency PTI, the meeting is set to take place in Kolkata ahead of the IPL 2025 opener between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Eden Gardens on March 22. BCCI’s top brass will be part of the meeting where the major agenda will be to discuss the plans for the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 set to be hosted by India later this year.
The official schedule of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 is not out yet and the venues too haven’t been finalised by the BCCI. India will be hosting the tournament for the first time since 2015. Though there is enough time for the preparations of the tournament which is set to be played in October this year, BCCI wants to ensure the plans are in place for the same.
As per PTI, a discussion on the formation of the organising committee of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 and the venues that will be hosting the matches will take place in the BCCI Apex Council meeting on Saturday.
The Indian men’s cricket team will also play a two-match Test series against West Indies at home in October this year followed by a Test series against South Africa at home which will get underway in November. A decision on the venues of the Test matches is also expected to be taken in the Apex Council meeting.
BCCI mulls ban on tobacco, alcohol and crypto sponsorships
The BCCI will also mull banning all forms of promotions and sponsorships, including surrogate advertisements involving alcohol and tobacco brands. A discussion will take place on the same in the Apex Council meeting after the health ministry asked the Indian cricket board to end ties with such brands.
A discussion will also be held on banning promotions and advertisements involving crypto exchanges in the country. Though cryptocurrency is not officially banned in India, the Indian government doesn’t prohibit nor encourages investments in crypto coins.
The BCCI might consider a potential ban on sponsorships involving tobacco, alcohol and crypto companies after a directive from the health ministry. The topic will be discussed in the BCCI Apex Council meeting. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
