New Delhi: Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has landed in a fresh controversy after making ‘racist’ remarks on England pacer Jofra Archer on air during the match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisres Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday, March 23. Harbhajan landed in trouble after comparing Archer to ‘black taxi’ while commentating during the game.

The incident happened during the 18th over of the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s innings when Archer was bowling to SRH batters Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen, who were going all guns blazing in the middle. Harbhajan made a controversial remark on air after Klassen smashed back-to-back boundaries against Archer on the second and the thirddelivery of the over.

“London me kaali taxi ka meter tez bhaagta hai, Aur yaha pe Archer sahab ka meter bhi tez bhaaga hai (Like the meter of London’s black taxis, Archer’s meter has also been on the higher side),” Harbhajan quipped on air. A clip of his statement soon went viral, sparking criticism from all corners as fans called out the former India cricketer, labelling his remark ‘unacceptable’.

Jofra Archer records worst-ever bowling figures in IPL history

Archer had an off day with the ball for Rajasthan Royals as he ended up recording the worst-ever bowling figures by any bowler in IPL history, conceding 76 runs while going wicket-less off his four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Archer was taken to the cleaners by the likes of Ishan Kishan, Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen.

Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Rajasthan Royals in a run-fest at home

Sunrisers Hyderabad rode on Ishan Kishan’s sensational ton and brilliant knocks from Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen to beat Rajasthan Royals by 44 runs in a run-fest at their home ground. Kishan slammed an unbeaten 106 off just 47 balls to become the first Indian to score a century for SRH in the IPL while Head smashed a quickfire 31 off 67 balls to once again get his team off to a blazing start.

Klaasen produced a cameo of 14-ball 34 laced with 5 fours and a six to propel Sunrisers Hyderabad to 286/6 in 20 overs, the second-highest total in IPL history behind their 287. In reply, Rajasthan Royals could only manage 242/6 in 20 overs with the help of Sanju Samson’s 37-ball 66 and Dhruv Jurel’s 70 off 35 balls to fall short in the chase and suffer their first defeat of the season.
