New Delhi: Pacer Akash Deep is set to join the squad of Lucknow Super Giants and will likely be available for the IPL clash against Mumbai Indians on Friday after recovering from an injury. The Bengal cricketer had picked a up a back injury during the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia and was out of action since December 2024.

This will be a major boost for the Super Giants ahead of their next clash against Mumbai as they haven’t had the best of the starts in the cash-rich league. Lucknow, in their three matches, has won just a lone fixture while going down in the remaining two. With Akash’s likely inclusion, they would be aiming to bounce back in the league.

Akash yet to debut for LSG

Akash was roped in by the Lucknow Super Giants this season for Rs 8 crore at the meg auction but the fast bowler is yet to make his debut in for the franchise this season. He played in the T20s in IPL 2024, where he represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in one match, against MI. In a total of eight matches played for the Royal Challengers since making his debut in 2022, Akash Deep has picked up seven wickets. It will be interesting to see how he fares with his new franchise.

LSG’s bowling line-up, which has been hit by injuries, has Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan in their fast-bowling ranks. The side included Prince Yadav in the first two games but subsequently left him out in the third match. Premier Super Giants pacer Mayank Yadav was ruled out of the IPL 2025 after his recovery from a lumbar stress injury was compounded by a toe injury while another pace option Mohsin Khan tore his anterior cruciate ligament last December, which prevented him from participation.
