IPL 2025: Priyansh Arya announces his arrival on big stage with fastest-ever century vs CSK

New Delhi: Priyansh Arya registered his name in the history books by smashing his maiden century in an Indian Premier League (IPL) Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Maharaja Yadvinder Singh Stadium in Mullanpur, Punjab.

Arya pulverised the CSK bowlers into submission with a 39-ball century, filled with free-flowing, effortless strokes. Arya’s 39-ball ton is the fastest century by any batter against the Chennai Super Kings. The left-handed opener made his intentions clear with a six on the very first ball of the match.

Arya’s record-breaking IPL debut

The first-ball six helped Arya reach an elite landmark, which has been achieved just four times in 18 years in the IPL. Arya joined Indian icon Virat Kohli in an elite list of only four players who had hit a first-ball six of the innings. Before Arya, Kohli, Phil Salt and Naman Ojha had cleared the boundary on the first ball of the innings in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.

Arya got a reprieve on the next ball as Khaleel dropped the catch off his own bowling. Arya capitalised on the opportunity and smashed a 19-ball fifty and, in the process, became only the fifth Punjab Kings batter to complete his fifty in the powerplay.

In a remarkable display of free-flowing batting, Arya punished CSK bowlers and showed his range in a stroke-filled knock of 103 off 42 balls with the help of six fours and nine sixes.

Arya lives up to the billing

Arya made headlines earlier this year by becoming the first batter to score a century in the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL T20). Playing for South Delhi Superstarz, he attracted further attention by smashing six sixes in as many balls in a league match en route to his second century of the tournament, finishing with 120 runs off 50 balls courtesy of 10 fours and as many maximums.

Arya continued his superb scoring run in the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2024 with an aggregate of 325 runs in nine matches at an average of 40.62 and an astonishing strike rate of 176.63, including a 43-ball 102 for Delhi against Uttar Pradesh. He hit a whopping 24 boundaries and an eye-watering 23 maximums (second highest) in the season.

The DPL and SMAT fireworks helped him get massive attention in the IPL 2025 mega-auction, where top franchises were engaged in a bidding war to acquire his services. Punjab Kings eventually won the bid of Rs 3.8 crore.

The Delhi youngster showed glimpses of his brilliance in his maiden IPL match last month with a blistering knock of 47 runs off just 23 balls against the Gujarat Titans.
