New Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has snapped back at former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie over his allegations of non-payment from the board. Gillespie, who served as Pakistan’s Test coach and head coach briefly in 2024, recently revealed that he is still awaiting some part of his final payment from the Pakistan Cricket Board, having resigned from his position last year.
Gillespie resigned as the head coach of Pakistan’s Test team in December last year, citing differences with PCB. He was scheduled to travel with the Pakistan Test squad to South Africa for their series, however, he refused to board the flight and tendered his resignation from the post. He was replaced by former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed, who is likely to face the axe after Pakistan’s poor show in the Champions Trophy 2025.
In an interview with PakPassion, Gillespie recently made a shocking revelation, stirring a controversy. The former Pakistan coach claimed that he was yet to receive some part of his remuneration for his tenure with the Pakistan national team. However, he refused to share the details of the amount he was owed by the PCB.
“Yes, without going into details. I’m still waiting on some remuneration from work that’s been done. That’s been a little disappointing, but hopefully it can be sorted sooner rather than later,” Gillespie said in the interview.
PCB responds to Jason Gillespie’s non-payment allegations
The Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday responded to Gillespie’s comments over non-payment from the board for his tenure as the coach of the Pakistan team. PCB alleged that Gillespie breached his contract by not serving the required notice period of four months after resigning from his post. In a statement, PCB hinted that the board is not obligated to pay any further remuneration to the former coach due to his breach of contract.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board refutes claims made by a former head coach on the non-payment of his dues. The PCB spokesman states that the former head coach abruptly left his position without giving a four-month notice period, which was a clear breach of the contractual terms. The coaching contract explicitly mentioned a notice period applicable to both parties, and the coach was fully aware of it,” PCB said in a statement on Monday.
Javed, who is the interim head coach of Pakistan, currently remains in his role despite the team’s debacle in the Champions Trophy 2025. However, there have been reports that a major shake-up can take place in the Pakistan backroom staff after the team’s poor show in the multi-nation tournament at home. Pakistan will return to action in international cricket when they take on the West Indies in a limited-overs series consisting of three T20Is and as many ODIs, starting July 31.
