New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah has been named the leading Men’s Cricketer in the World in the 2024 edition of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, which was released on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Smriti Mandhana received the title of leading Women’s Cricketer in the World, while Nicholas Pooran was named the Leading T20 Cricketer.
In 2024, Bumrah made history by becoming the first Test bowler to take 200 wickets with an average below 20. He picked up 86 wickets in 21 matches, averaging just 13 runs per wicket. The ace pacer finished as the highest wicket-taker and was also named the Player of the Tournament.
During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, Bumrah led India’s pace attack with 32 wickets at an average of 13.06. He also played a key role in India’s win at the 2024 T20 World Cup, held in the USA and the West Indies. However, Bumrah’s journey had a tough phase too. He missed the Champions Trophy due to a back injury and had to undergo surgery in March 2023. Bumrah, though, is back in action now, playing in the Indian Premier League.
Smriti Mandhana had a fantastic year with the bat. She scored 1659 runs across all formats, breaking the record for the most runs by a woman cricketer in a single year. Her performance included 4 ODI centuries and a brilliant Test century (149 runs) against South Africa in June.
Nicholas Pooran earned the T20 honor for his solid performance in 2024. He scored 464 runs in 21 T20 matches, with an average of 25.77 and a strike rate over 140. He has also been in top form in the IPL 2025, currently sitting at the second spot in the Orange Cap race with 368 runs in 8 innings, averaging over 50. He has an incredible strike of 205.58 and has recorded four fifty-plus scores, with a highest score of 87 not out. Pooran has also smashed 31 sixes, the most by any batter this season so far, a clear testament to his incredible hitting ability in the shortest format of the game.
