New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla said that India will continue to not play Pakistan in any bilateral series in the aftermath of the terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22 in which 26 people were killed. Both the cricket playing nations have not played bilateral series since 2012-13 when Pakistan last travelled to India for a limited-overs series.
Meanwhile, Indian cricket team last went to Pakistan in 2008 and since the last 17 years, the two teams have only faced each other in ICC events. During the ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan travelled to India however Team Indian refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 and their game, including the contest against the Men in Green and final were held in Dubai.
BCCI’s firm stance
As per an exclusive interview with Sports Tak, Shukla said that India will not play with Pakistan in bilaterals going forward. ‘We are with the victims and we condemn it. Whatever our government will say, we will do. We don’t play with Pakistan in bilateral series because of the government stand. And we will not play with Pakistan in bilaterals going forward. But when it comes to ICC event we play due to ICC engagement. ICC is also aware whatever is happening they will to it,’ he told.
Meanwhile, in a gesture of solidarity and respect, the Indian cricket board paid tribute to the victims of the terror attack in Pahalgam during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. To honour those who lost their lives in the ghastly attack, a 1-minute silence was observed before the start of the play which was followed with a formal announcement over the public address system.
